Abstract
The main objective of the study was to analyze factors influencing household expenditure on food using a case study of the Kakiri town council. The study specifically aimed at investigating how the occupation of the household head, the size of a household, the gender of the household head, the age of the household head and education of the household head, location of household, and household income influence household expenditure on food. The results revealed statistically significant relationships between the occupation of the household head, the size of a household, the age of the household head, and household income with household expenditure on food. The study recommends that the government should reduce taxes on food imports as a cost reduction measure on the side of the households and also provide training skills for the unemployed household heads so that they can be able to provide food for their families.
