dc.description.abstract Textile design is essentially the process of creating designs for woven, knitted or printed fabrics on surface ornamented fabrics. Textile designers are involved with the production of these designs which are used sometimes repetitively in clothing and interior d6cor items. In other words, textile design is a process from the raw material to finished products. Fibre, yarn, and finishes are the key elements to be considered during the textile design procedure. It is the process of planning and creating textile structure and appearance. Textile designers: dream up designs that are woven or knitted into fabric or printed on fabric. It is fascinating, and more complicated than you may think. The textile designer is involved from the very beginning in creating new textiles. He may suggest types of thread to weave together for a specific dyeing method (using dyes to colour threads woven into fabrics or printing on fabric surfaces) to achieve a desired effect. Each historical period and geographical location had a textile design history. Cultures all over the world had distinct textiles with -favoured fibres, patterns, and colours. But everywhere, colour and pattern varied. Style trends came and slipped out of fashion. Textiles go back to thousands of years with cottons and silks found as early as 5000 BC in India and China. Trade networks developed between Europe, the Middle East, and Asia and textiles became valuable commodities. en_US
