dc.description.abstract This study examined the role of Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) Radio in promoting Kadongo Kamu music in Uganda. Kadongo Kamu, a traditional music genre known for its storytelling and cultural expression, has declined in popularity, particularly among the youth, despite its historical importance. The research aims to assess UBC Radio’s contribution to the preservation and promotion of this music, its effectiveness, and the challenges faced in doing so. A qualitative approach was used, involving interviews with Kadongo Kamu artists and UBC Radio staff, and analysis of relevant radio programs and playlists. Findings indicate that while UBC Radio has played a significant role in sustaining Kadongo Kamu through dedicated programs and airplay, limited resources, competition from private stations, and shifting audience preferences hinder its full impact. The study recommends strengthened cultural policies, increase media support, and enhanced collaboration between UBC and artists as essential strategies for preserving and revitalizing Kadongo Kamu music in Uganda.
