Abstract
The study was carried out on the up take of fashion design and its practice in Bugishu tradition a case of circumcision in Mudodo village, Mbale district. The specific objectives include to examine the causes that hinder full practice of fashion design by the natives in Mudodo village, to identify possible solutions to these challenges that hinder full practice of fashion design, to investigate the effects of improper practice of fashion design by the natives to growing society The study was out using both qualitative and qualitative methodology in data collection. It was more of participatory an action oriented research with the much involvement of people. The study aimed at giving more qualitative than qualitative than quantitative one in answering the study objectives .an interview guide was also used to collect data , questionnaires , personal interview scheduled for the key formants and observation were used supplement on the above techniques which were used in the data collection .The findings indicate the most of residents of Mudodo village know legal culture fashion design of original Bugishu Tradition though they did not give it much attention and also there are various causes mal practice of fashion design in Mudodo village that is the influence from western cultures, low levels of cultural education but poverty was seen to be a major reason for mal-practice of fashion design .It was concluded that the mal-practice of fashion design is a real problem in Mudodo village so cultural leaders , parents have been found to play a key role in this practices . This is due to the fact that most modern parents and cultural leaders lack understanding of the importance of original local fashion design of Bagishu tribe. Basing on the major findings and conclusion, it was recommended that local leaders in the study area and the nation at large, should work on the local tradition laws that prohibit mal-practice of fashion design. And also, the government should make local tradition education curriculum compulsory at the primary and secondary levels as the way of discouraging mal- practice of fashion design. Finally, respondents commented that there is need for raising awareness to community members on the importance of original tradition fashion design as to discourage its depletion to western influence.
