Factors responsible for women's limited engagement in technical aspects of film production in Uganda

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find to out why there are few female artists in technical aspects of film production. I also wanted to know the perception of female artists towards the technical aspects of film production and the measures those few who are involved technically in the film industry have taken. In the end, I suggest ways on how more women can be encouraged to involve in technical aspects of film production. Hence this research was conducted to establish the factors responsible for women’s limited engagement in technical aspects of film production. The study was descriptive in nature and used qualitative methods of data collection which were administered through interviews and observation to guide the collection of data. The researcher went to Ssanyu Television Series set at Mengo High Court, Kampala, Kafa Coh movie premiere at Century Cinemax, Kamwokya and The Uganda National Cultural Centre. These venues were selected for studies because that is where I could easily access the women I was interested in for the study. Secondary data was obtained from library materials, textbooks, internet, and published journals.
