Influence of government programs on agricultural production in Amolatar Town Council, Amolatar District.

Abstract

Amolatar district has government programs such as NAADS, OWC whose aim is to improve on the agricultural production in the district. However, there is still inadequate government support in the agricultural sector in Amolatar district due to many reasons. The agricultural sector in Amolatar town council faces several challenges such as low productivity, limited access to markets, and a lack of resources and technology. The main objective of this study was to assess the impacts of government programs on Agriculture productivity in Amolatar Town Council, Amolatar District. Data was collected using questionnaires to obtain qualitative and quantitative data from farmers in the above specified study area and interview guides were also used to collect data from local council leaders. One hundred (100) farmers were interviewed using questionnaire guides while 3 local council leaders were also interviewed. The results show that services offered by the government programs have greatly led to increased yields, improved quality of crops and increase in the farmers’ income. It was concluded that NAADS and OWC significantly contributed to the performance of farmers in terms of productivity and income. The study recommends monitoring and evaluating of government programs in order to pinpoint areas of development.
