dc.description A dissertation submitted to the School of Languages, Literature and Communication in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Chinese and Asian Studies of Makerere University.
dc.description.abstract Tang poetry holds a prominent position in the history of Chinese literature, with natural imagery playing a particularly rich and profound role. Poets employed elements such as landscapes, plants, animals, and celestial phenomena to convey emotions, express philosophical ideas, and pursue aesthetic ideals. This study examines natural imagery in Tang poetry from the perspectives of cultural context, imagery types, artistic techniques, and the poets’ inner states. The findings reveal that natural imagery not only constitutes a distinctive artistic feature of Tang poetry but also serves as an externalization of the poets’ spiritual world, reflecting a harmonious relationship between humanity and nature as well as deep philosophical values.
