dc.description.abstract This study is a presentation of the importance of Ankole proverbs in the contemporary Ankole society. The thesis puts to light the detailed explanation of how significant the Ankole proverbs are to the people who live in Ankole (Banyankole). In Ankole, proverbs are used in all spheres of life the social, economic and political spheres, therefore all the significances of the Ankole proverbs explained in this thesis rotate around all the fore mentioned spheres. Such significances include; proper upbringing of morally upright children, offering advice to young people seeking marriage partners, being used to facilitate hard work spirit amongst the Banyankore, promoting unity amongst the Banyankore, Building strong family foundations, solving political rivalry, being used to mould strong future leaders, used to re-unite separate family couples, to mention but a few. The research digs deep to answer the question of who uses the proverbs in today’s Ankole Society’ the thesis also provides an immediate answer of all Banyankore, who know how to speak maturely, use the Ankole proverbs to enhance their speech. Generally the research study shows the importance and/or relevancy of the Ankole proverbs to today’s people of Ankole (known as Banyankore). The study concludes by agreeing that the proverbs are (as they were in the ancient past) still valid to the people of Ankole (Banyankore).
