The impact of national agricultural advisory services on household welfare in Wakiso District: a case study of Muyomba Village

dc.description.abstract The main objective of the research program was to analyze NAADS impact on household welfare basing on the following objectives; to establish the various agricultural extension activities used by NAADS in Wakiso district, to examine the household welfare in Muyomba village Wakiso district, and to establish the relationship between various agricultural extension activities used by NAADS and household welfare in Muyomba village Wakiso district The study was a descriptive comparative survey but also to involved quantitative data analysis to compare welfare implications of households participating in NAADS and those not. A sample of 120 households was selected for the study. The sample was disaggregated into two, 60 NAADS beneficiaries and 60 non-beneficiaries. These households are to be selected through cluster random sampling - one cluster having NAADS beneficiaries and the other non-beneficiaries. The data was coded and entered in the computer using EPIDATA and then exported to Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) for analysis. From the analysis, frequencies, and percentages analysis was made. Findings revealed that NAADS provides farmers with Information on improved crop production technologies, crop production practices, improved livestock production technologies, improved livestock production practices, improved fish farming technologies, improved fish farming practices, improved beekeeping technologies, improved beekeeping practices, market information on crops, livestock, fish farming, and beekeeping. Besides that, most farmers stay in their owned houses, their level of income is very poor, have a problem with costs for health, are not able to provide school fees for their children, and they do not get enough food for their family. Nevertheless, NAADS Services did not help most farmers to have basic needs like shelter, medication, land for farming, school fees for children and food for the family. en_US
