Factors influencing students' knowledge about mobile micro-health insurance offered by Airtel and MTN at Makerere University, School of Statistics and Planning

Abstract

This study seeks to examine factors Influencing students' knowledge about mobile micro-health insurance offered by Airtel and MTN at Makerere university, School of Statistics and Planning. A self-administered questionnaire was used in obtaining the data factors Influencing students' knowledge about mobile micro health insurance offered by Airtel and MTN and the data was processed using Microsoft Excel 2019 for frequency analysis and Stata 15.0 software for running the binary logistic regression. A total of 120 individuals participated in the study and according to the results obtained, 59 individuals (49.17%) had knowledge about mobile micro health insurance offered through Airtel and MTN whereas 61 individuals (50.83%) were not knowledgeable. The variables course of study, student type of residence, student employment status and type of mobile network owned had a relatively significant impact on the student’s knowledge about mobile micro health insurance offered through Airtel and MTN. Despite the fact that nearly half of the individuals knew about mobile micro health insurance offered through Airtel and MTN there is still need for others to know about them. From this study, there is need for the right measures to be taken to increase sensitization among students in the university and also stake holders should target the young population under which university students belong since the country is highly comprised of them.
