dc.description.abstractPutty is a fairly priced product widely used as an adhesive for fitting glass into frames. It is usually prepared from any limestone mixed with raw linseed oil before being applied in a paste like mass. Charcoal ash and leftover paint are two waste products that possibly be utilized for the same purpose as limestone and raw linseed oil. The use of these two materials was therefore investigated. The paint used in this case was red oxide zinc chromate paint. Various mixtures of charcoal ash and paint were prepared and left in an open shade to dry. The various mixes were tested for hardness using the vicat needle apparatus at selected time intervals. With both mixes exhibiting good mechanical properties, they were tested for water absorption and adhesion. The research showed that waste products can be utilized to make a material similar to putty in behavior and performance thus creating an alternative application for the materials that would otherwise have been disposed offen_US
