Evaluation of effect of beer filtration operation on Eagle lager extra beer haze at 90 and 25 degrees
Abstract
Beer clarity is a first impression to the eyes of a consumer and as such has a profound contribution to customer satisfaction. cloudy or hazy beer gives customers thoughts of contamination and improperly brewed beer and this can affect market share of a given company brand. A number of factors that affect beer haze during filtration were examined including rate of pressure drop, Lucilite TR dosing rate and temperature gain during filtration. Rate of pressure drop was exceeding the specification of 0.2bars/hr and was contributing to high beer haze. The Lucilite TR dosing rate higher than 350hl/hr reduced beer haze to within specification range and there was minimal temperature gain during filtration and this had no effect on beer haze.
