dc.description.abstractThe topic under study was an assessment on the impact of Covid-19 on the standards of living of people in slum areas and the case study was Katanga slum. Data was collected using questionnaires, interviews and observation method. SPSS was used for data analysis and interpretation. The sample size of 80 respondents was selected using simple random sampling. Majority of respondents interviewed were male 57.5% and the females were 42.5%. Majority of respondents attained University as their highest level of education (32.5%) and most of the respondents got to know about Covid-19 through their friends (41.3%) The non-parametric chi-squared test statistics was used to test the relationship between Covid-19 and the different variables. The hypotheses were tested at 95% significance and results showed the following chi-square values for the effect of Covid-19 on the different variables; (0.624) income, (0.009) education, (0.073) consumption levels, (0.543) health status, (0.767) expenditure levels, (0.659) domestic violence levels where the highest chi-square values showed a strong impact of Covid-19 on the variables and all the variables showed there is a significant relationship between them and Covid-19. Based on the findings, Covid-19 has greatly affected the standards of living of people in slum areas therefore the government should implement various policies and projects to compensate the people in these areas the re-cover from the effects of the pandemic.en_US
