dc.description.abstractHandling emergencies in Uganda, which include criminal offences like abduction(kidnap), and health related emergencies like heart attacks, has always been difficult and is still increasingly unmanageable currently. This is because of the inefficient and bureaucratic methods that are currently used. This has resulted into increasing cases that are not quickly detected and responded to which has led to loss of peoples’ lives (John ,2019). Being out of touch with a loved one is concerning in itself, but during times of political dysfunction, violence, and natural disasters, not receiving quick response and hearing from someone you care about is most terrifying. This called for an investigation into a way on how to come up with an efficient method that can easily handle the different emergency cases. Therefore, the aim of this report was to investigate weaknesses in the current emergency handling systems used in Uganda, with the interest to offer a more significant and efficient solution. A study was conducted on different emergency handling organizations, like the health ministry and private ambulance companies, and members of the public on their experience and take on the current systems. An investigation of the most common methods used for detecting and handling emergency cases was done and the results amazingly proved that in as much as technology keeps improving in Uganda and other parts of the world, more needs to be done in regards to applying this technology to solve our own problems. With the use of technology like wearable and mobile devices, the solutions to our problems are within our power and reach. Owing to this investigation, we developed an emergency management system comprised of an Android application software and an embedded system (Wearable device). The main objective of our research project was to develop a mobile-based system that monitors a user's heart rate, locates victims and gathers evidence necessary for investigations anytime anywhere. We recommend the Emergency UG system to be put into use by all the community users in order to easily detect emergencies and respond to victims.en_US
