With the rapid developments happening around Uganda, many people are transitioning from the traditional ways of water access to modern means, which are either
connected to the public piped water supply system, or to a water tank system. Artificial water storage is done for a variety of reasons and is done on small and large
scales.[1]
A water tank is a container for storing water and its made up of either concrete,
plastic, wood, stones or lined carbon steel. Water tanks are used to provide storage
of water for use in many applications, drinking water, irrigation agriculture, fire suppression, agricultural farming, both for plants and livestock, chemical manufacturing,
food preparation as well as many other uses.[1]
These tanks are either underground tanks or elevated tanks. Water tanks hold water
that is either pumped from the public piped water system or the rain water. Its
always hard to tell whether the tank is empty of filled. This possess a question to
the owners and they may easily run short of water in case the tank is empty causing
panic or an over flow in case the tank is excessively filled causing inconveniences at
that location.
An automated water level monitor system when designed and implemented would
address this issue. It would enable a user to fill up the tank incase its filled or stop
water supply after they have received a notification on their websystem or/and mobile
phones that their water tank is almost full.
