In most large urban areas of Uganda like Kampala, there is high demand for land for socioeconomic activities. This high land demand often results to land scramble and illegal conversion of land uses, leading to haphazard development and the deliberate location of fuel filling stations in unsuitable areas. This research pursued the use GIS and multi criteria decision analysis to establish the degree of suitability of the existing petrol stations Kampala by providing quantitative information with regards to conformity to the physical planning standards set by the state in addition to environmental protection. It was realised that 18 stations lie within the suitable areas, 18 stations lie within the suitable while only 4 stations lie within the moderately suitable zone. Most of the stations within Kawempe have followed the crucial environmental and safety guidelines when setting up sites.en_US
