Abstract
The research was carried in the greater Ankole region in Isingiro district south west of Uganda around Kibwera central, Maboona parish, Isingiro Town council, Isingiro district. The focus of the research was on the issues that influenced the people that lived before writing introduced and used orature in their daily life as an instructive tool to impact cultural values and moral support from one generation to another especially the young people/children. However, most of the literature scholars concentrated on the written literature which undermining the oral forms due to the fact that Euro- centralism had considered oral literature as sheer, barbaric and backward hence belonging to anthropology but not literature in the traditional sense of the word. In this study, focus has been put on proverbs concerning child upbringing among the Banyankore of greater Ankole region; a case study of Isingiro district.
