dc.description.abstractSample preparation and extraction were processed according to the method described by de Oliveira et al. The peels of pineapple were removed and rinsed with water before being processed. The pineapple peels were then dried in a ventilated oven at 60◦C for 48 h and ground to a fine powder. A ratio of fine powder of pineapple peels (powder) to solvent of 1:5 (m/v) is used. 25g of pineapple peel powder was placed into the thimble and placed in the Soxhlet chamber. The solvent used for oil extraction was n-hexane. The extraction was carried out using 500 ml with n-hexane at 690C (below the boiling temperature) of hexane with purity 99.0 % for 3-5 hr are placed in a round bottom in1000 ml flask and assembled for Soxhlet extractor. Then solvent evaporates and moves up into the condenser, where it is converted into a liquid that trickles into the extraction chamber from table 3, The density of oil extracted from pineapple peels was 0.8827 g/cm3 and the specific gravity was found to be 0.912. The free fatty acid content of the oil was 4.26 while the iodine value was recorded as 3.858/100g of oil. The saponification value of the pineapple peels oil was 37.59 mg/g while the acid value and pH were 8.92 mg KOH/g oil and 7 respectively (table 3). From the present research conducted, it can be concluded that the Pineapple peels can be used for oil extraction and then employed in the production of biodiesel using banana peels prepared catalyst as the biodiesel obtained passed most of the quality parameters required for normal function of the diesel engine as per the ASTMD standard.en_US
