dc.description.abstractThe dissertation encompasses all the steps taken in order to design and construct an adjustable chimney hood whose main objective is to develop an adjustable chimney hood that provides flexibility to cooking space requirements. Chapter one consists of the background, which comprises of information concerning Uganda’s primary energy needs and the effects of the emissions from combustion of biomass. This chapter also contains the problem statement that the project aims to solve and also, the main and specific objectives of the project. In this chapter, the project is justified and its scope determined. Chapter two encompasses the literature review which consists of the methods being used to reduce air pollution in the kitchen area. Chapter three covers the methodology and includes all the steps that were taken to construct the final product. The steps included data collection and analysis, preliminary design, material collection and purchasing, detailed designs and finally the construction process. Chapter four consists of design experiments in testing of the prototype, the result analysis and discussion of results. While chapter five contains the conclusion and recommendationsen_US
