dc.description.abstract | Cost control is a very important aspect of construction to ensure that the project cost is within
budget after its completion. But this haven’t been the case with the cost control not being carried
out effectively. The problem being the people responsible for the execution not performing their
roles or performing different roles and main focus directed on the two main parties responsible
that is Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor. The purpose of the study was therefore to assess
how the roles of quantity surveyors and managers can be streamlined during cost control to reduce
construction cost overrun on construction projects in Kampala this would in turn make
construction affordable to the citizen.
Research questionaries were administered to 79 construction projects to represent the 98
construction projects completed and on-going in 2019. Only 63 response were achieved though.
The results were analysed using frequencies, means and mode. Interviews were conducted after to
further understand some of the analysed data.
It was found out that the cost control practise being followed on construction projects in Kampala
had a 60% of the project finishing within budget. The impact of client interference on the cost
control was also discovered to be really great. The relationship between the quantity surveyors
and project manager was found to be moderate other than perfect with consultation not at perfect
level and disagreements between the parties were also present. It was recommended that the part
of the roles being followed on construction projects be adjusted to achieve a better percentage of
projects finishing within budget and the consultation between them be increase by carrying out
further study on what hinders consultation between them. | en_US |
