dc.description.abstract | The 100g soap samples prepared using palm oil and palm kernel oil by the cold process are collected and analysed for amount of glycerol, salt, water, free fatty acid, sodium hydroxide present. The weights of glycerine recovered per 100g of palm oil and palm kernel oil were 9.5g and 9.9g respectively. Therefore a percentage of 54.9% and 57.3% of the glycerine were recovered from the soap samples prepared using palm oil and palm kernel oil respectively. Higher quantities of 8% brine were required to recover 9.9g of glycerine from palm kernel oil and lower quantities of 10% brine were required to recover 9.5g of glycerine from palm oil soap samples. The weights of glycerine obtained from palm kernel oil increased through a maximum before dropping again while the weights of glycerine recovered from palm oil increased gradually throughout all the brine concentrations. | en_US |
