| dc.description.abstract | This study was under taken to evaluate performance efficiency of a waste water treatment plant in a distillery industry. A spent wash treatment plant operating on biological treatment method was considered for this study. The waste water treatment plant under study consisted of lagoons, an aerobic bio digester and activated sludge process. Waste water samples were collected at different stages of treatment unit sand analysed for the major water quality parameters, such as biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS) and total Dissolved solids (TDS), PH. The performance efficiency of each unit in treating the pollutants was calculated. Overall performance of the plant was also estimated. The obtained results will be very much useful in identification and rectification of operational and maintenance problems as well as the future expansion to be carried out in the plant to meet the increased hydraulic and organic loadings. The initial concentrations of distillery spent wash for COD, BOD, TSS, TDS, were 100,000mg/l, 41,300mg/l, 9081mg/l, 90, 424mg/l respectively. After treatment of the effluent, there modal efficiency of the plant for COD, BOD, TSS, and TDS was 93.24%, 97.88%, 94.31%, and 95.08% respectively. | en_US |
