Design and construction of a low cost image surveillance system
The proposed system is a smart surveillance system using 5mpx camera and Raspberry pi. The Raspberry Pi configuration program was written in python. The raspberry Pi 2B model is the heart of the system. This board is attached to a 5MPx camera through the Camera slot on board. The board is powered through a standard 5V USB 2 phone charger. Using the board GPIO pins, the sensor (input), buzzer (output1), indicator LED (output2) are attached. The board supports Wi-Fi network connection through a connected Wi-Fi USB dongle. The In this system the Malfare RC522-RFID module is used for access control. The valid authorized occupants of the premises are issued with registered RFID tags. When a known tag is detected, the Raspberry pi authenticates access. However, if the card is unknown or not presented, the system captures a picture using a Raspberry pi camera and then sends out an alert email along with the image to a pre-configured email address using a Wi-Fi dongle as per the program written in python environment in software implementation. As an essential component of many associations’ security and safety, surveillance has established its importance and benefits numerous times by providing immediate supervising of possessions, people, environment and property. This project deals with the design approach of an Embedded Real-Time Surveillance System based on Raspberry Pi for intruder detection that reinforces surveillance technology to provide essential security and alert operations. The proposed security solution hinges on integration of a camera and a motion detector. Raspberry Pi microcomputer operates and controls the motion detector and the camera for remote sensing and surveillance. This research is focused on developing a surveillance system that detects strangers and responds speedily by capturing and relaying images to an owner specific email address. The proposed solution offers a cost effective ubiquitous surveillance solution, efficient and easy to implement.
