dc.description.abstractA proverbs is a short saying, stating a general truth or piece of advice. A proverb can also be defined as a brief, simple and popular saying or phrase that gives advice and effectively embodies or common place truth based on practical experience or common sense. Proverbs may have an allegorical messages behind their odd appearance. They are normally popular due to the usage I spoken language as well as in folk literature. Okama (2001:44) defines Luo proverbs also known as Nero as "succinct statements full of folk wisdom and are popularly used. Okama explains that proverbs are integrated into speech to enhance their aesthetic appeal .He argues that this is particularly so in the speech by elders whose experiences are wider and are regardeden_US
