This has turned out to be an alarming cause of child poverty, illiteracy and death among others. According to the demographic and health surveys (DHS) data report (2016), the percentage of children living with the mother only was at 16.7%. Therefore, this research focused on finding out the major challenges faced by single parents while raising their children and among others included self-doubt, behavioral effect, poverty and unemployment and these have so much been a key in affecting the welfare of children raised by single parents. During the research I was also able to collect some of the causes of single parent families which included fear of responsibilities by some fathers who leave their women to pay the bills of the family, death, early pregnancies abandonment by most fathers to mention but a few and this was to first identify the root cause of single parent families for the challenges to be solved. The results were collected using interview method, questionnaire where questions where written down to ease collection of data. In a nutshell, there has been need for government intervention in the matters of single parents to combat the rising challenges that affect the families. Although there are many children that are growing up well with single parents, the fact remains that still these parents more so single mothers face a lot of challenges.
