dc.description.abstractAs a result of antimicrobial resistance, there has been renewed interest in the use of old drugs like chloramphenicol which has been abandoned due to their side effects but has good activity against multi-drug resistant bacteria. Objective: To determine the multi-drug-resistant bacteria that are susceptible to chloramphenicol. Method: Data was obtained from bench books of blood culture where all isolates of mult-drug resistant bacteria were identified and susceptibility test were done to confirm their activity with chloramphenicol. Results: MDR bacteria isolates were 38 0ut of 120 samples got from blood culture books. 4(11%) were S.Aureus, 12(32%) E.coli, 11(29%) K.pneumoniae, 0(0%) Streptococcal pneumonia, 9(24%) Enterococcal, 2(5%) Providencia. 92.1% of MDR bacteria were susceptible to chloramphenicol and 7.9 were resistant to chloramphenicol. Conclusion: In this era of increasing antimicrobial resistance, chloramphenicol may play a role to treatment of mult-drug resistant bacteria that cause different infections to the body and these include pneumonia, urinary tract infections, meningitis and others.en_US
