Heavy metal contamination of yam root tubers and leaves in electronic waste dismantling facilities
Abstract
Heavy metals are bio_accummulated and bio-transfrerred both by natural and anthropogenic sources.
The contamination by heavy metals in plants is one of the major issues to be faced through the world and it requires attention because heavy metals above their normal ranges are extremely threatened to both animal and plant life. It was therefore of interest to estimate levels of heavy metals in yam root tubers and leaves in electronic waste dismantling facilities of Katwe, Nalukolongo and Kiteezi. 5 yam leaf samples were collected randomly from each of the 3 sampling sites.Additionally 10 yam root species were randomly selected from the areas of study.Heavy metals for which these samples were analysed were,Zinc, copper and iron
