This study aims on the use of folktales among the Banyankole during girl child upbringing. Folktales are popular stories passed on orally from one generation to another over along period of time. This is done as a medium of passing on knowledge, skills, ideas, beliefs, values in traditional societies. Folktales as the researcher's point of focus were frequently used in past generations and nowadays in today's society, they have lost value due to adaptation of Western or modern culture. The researcher observed that folktales have been threatened by Western ideologies and modernisation which act as forces that let down the Kinyankole culture. This is because most children of today are exposed to English right away from baby class to higher education meaning they are not in position to know their local language and culture. This study focuses on the contemporary society, a generation that needs to be reminded about the importance of such oral narratives which our ancestors depended on for the well up bringing of the youth.en_US
