| dc.description.abstract | The availability and cost of parking I greatly affects the decision people make to travel to a particular destination or not to travel to a particular destination. One of the most important objective of physical planning is ensuring effective and efficient transport systems of which parking is part of the transport system. This research study investigated on the availability of car parking facilities and their situation within Kampala City CBD and suggests recommendations of achieving appropriate car parking management.
The research consists of five chapters; chapter one contains the introduction of the study, chapter two has literature review, chapter three deals with the research methodology and research design, chapter four presents field findings and analysis of collected data and discussions of the findings, chapter five illustrates conclusions and recommendations for the study. The study also entails both general and specific objectives for example the general objective is to assess the types, availability, distribution and adequacy car parking facilities in the CBD. And specific objectives were to examine existing parking facilities in the area, to examine adequacy of parking spaces in the CBD, to identify challenges facing parking management in the area, to suggest recommendations to solve parking challenges in the CBD.
The study engaged explanatory design and other approaches both qualitative and quantitative to achieve findings through use of different tools during data collection such as observation, interviews, questionnaires and photography, Data collection and analysis and the literature review, in addition the data was collected from primary and secondary sources. The research reveals that parking spaces in the CBD are not sufficient, the existing parking spaces are not secure, and the private sector is the major provider of secure parking facilities in the CBD. Therefore investigating on the availability of car parking facilities and their situation within the CBD is very vital in achieving appropriate car parking management in the city. | en_US |
