With the increasing development and advancement of cellular technologies from 2G technology to now 5G, the number devices has greatly increased with an individual having more two devices on them. This mainly due the applications that can be supported by these devices for example live streaming, machine type communication, vehicle to vehicle communication, gaming, file sharing, content distribution and other applications. This leads to low reliability due to multiple devices, congestion on the network causing low latency and limited coverage in some areas. D2D communication provides a great opportunity and a potential solution to such challenges. This report details the implementation of device to device communication of software defined radio and the main challenges faced during the process of implementation. In summary 4G cellular network is implemented using Open Air Interface (OAI) Software, SDRs, laptops and duplex antennas. One laptop acts as the core network and eNodeB at the same time and other two laptops are the user equipment. This network is used to try and achieve device to device communication.en_US
