Demographic,family and ethnocentrisim among lecturers at Makerere University

This study examined the demographic, family variables and ethnocentrism among lecturers at Makerere University, the objectives of the study were; to examine the relationship between demographic and family variables among lecturers in Makerere university, to examine the relationship between family variables and ethnocentrism among lecturers in Makerere university and to examine the relationship between demographic and ethnocentrism among lecturers in Makerere university. The research design was a descriptive cross-sectional survey research design using both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used to address the research objectives. The cross-sectional survey adopted enabled the researcher to pick a cross-section of respondents over a short period of time and allowed the researcher to get a detailed description of the study A sample size of 105 respondents was used in data collection using Slovene’s formula and the researcher used questionnaire and interview guide as instruments for data collection. The data was presented, analyzed and interpreted by using SPSS software on demographic, family variables and ethnocentrism among lecturers in Makerere University and 105 questionnaires were distributed randomly. The study revealed that most of the respondents do not agree that other cultures are better than theirs, and many of the respondents have friends from different cultures who agreed with a percentage of 50.5%. The study findings revealed that lifestyles in other cultures are not valid as those in their culture because most of the respondents agreed with a percentage of 35.2%, however other respondents were neutral about being interested in the values and customs of other cultures with a percentage of 24.9% and those who were different with their cultural values while 27.6% strongly disagreed cooperating with people who are different from them and having little respect for the values and customs of other cultures.
