    Abstract
In this project, the quality parameters of waste water that included pH, Biochemical Oxygen Demand and temperature were used to determine the effect of waste water on its surrounding. From a pH meter, both pH and temperature of the waste water and that of a sample obtained from the water body in which waste water flows to where obtained. The Biochemical Oxygen Demand was also obtained The results of pH showed that pH of waste water was alkaline(8.91)that it made the water in the water body slightly basic in addition to other factors which affected the microorganisms living in the water. It also made the skin of the people who bath it dry and itchy. The temperature (26.48°C) of the waste water obtained did not significantly affect the temperature of the water in the water body in which wastewater flows to and therefore no significant effect to the environment. The Biochemical Oxygen Demand of wastewater and that obtained from the waterbody in which waste water flows to were 522mg/L and 510mg/L respectively. These high values of Biochemical Oxygen Demand implied that there is a high consumption of oxygen in the water which imposed a negative effect to the living organisms in the water body that use oxygen for respiration .It was recommended that better treatment methods other than the dilution method should be used at the industries.
