dc.description.abstract | Interest in the role of small and medium-sized poultry farmers in the development process continues to be in the forefront of policy debates in developing countries. The role of market, extension services, cost of inputs have been viewed as a critical element for the performance of small and medium-sized poultry farmers. Therefore, this study sought to evaluate the factors affecting the performance of small and medium scale poultry farmers in Hoima district.
The study used questionnaires to collect data. A sample size of 50 was drawn from the target divisions. Once the data was collected, it was coded and analyzed with the help of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Mean, frequencies, and regression analysis were done and t- test was used to make conclusions about the hypothesis.
As part of conclusion of the study it was very clear from the findings that access to market had the potential to positively affect performance of poultry farmers; extension services were found to positively and significantly affect performance of poultry farmers; cost of inputs were found to significantly affect performance . The study results also indicated that as number of years in operations increased the performance increased.
The study recommended that banks should improve access to markets through offering better transport facilities; focus on acquiring extension services, reducing the cost of inputs in order to increase their performance. | en_US |
