A research report submitted to the College of Engineering Design and Art in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the award of the degree Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering of Makerere University.en_US
The overall purpose of the project was to design and simulate an affordable, portable and energy efficient motorized power hacksaw and the main problem on which the design emphasized is the overpriced and heavy motorized power hacksaw in the market making them expensive to purchase and difficult to relocate. The study was designed following the following methods: analyzing market and customer needs, requirement analysis, concept generation and selection, analytical design of each component, developing part design model of the product, initial screening and comparison for material selection, performing analysis and simulation test on the designed model. The major findings for my project included; motion analysis of the designed model to determine performance parameters which include; the cutting speed31.415m/min, cutting time, stroke 111.652𝑚𝑚 and cutting force 118.76N and torque of the motorized power hacksaw. In conclusion, the cost and portability is dependent upon the primary prices of the component parts of the machine and the primary weight of the component parts and more modification like installing a cooling system for the designed machine to improve its performanceen_US
