dc.description.abstract. In this study, the prevalence of ESBL genes (CTXMand TEM) amongE.coliisolates obtained from Entebbe regional referral hospital has been investigated. 32emulsified stool e.coli isolates were collected from patients not respondingtotreatment at the hospital. Molecular detection of antibiotic resistance genes was done on all 32 isolates. Out of the 32 isolates, 7 were found to carry the TEM gene, and the prevalence of thegene was 21%. 1 out of 32 isolates (3%) was found to carry the CTXMgene. After doing gel electrophoresis, the size of the TEM gene was 800 base pairs usingthe 100 base pair ladder. The size of the CTXM gene was 600 base pairs usingthe100 base pair ladder.en_US
