This dissertation is entitled “imagery in proverbs among the Lugbara.” An analysis of forms of imagery namely; visual, organic and kinesthetic imagery. The approach in the study entails appreciation of all the proverbs that are written in Lugbarati then translated to English through a demonstration of the way imagery showcases the totality of the work in oral literature through bringing the proverbs to life by the senses that define it. The theory of imagery is realized and applied not to only bring out the stylistic aspect caused by any of its form as discussed in the dissertation, but to also see the relevance in developing meaning which is through identification of the forms of imagery, namely; visual, organic and kinesthetic imagery and then see how their presence enhance meaning to ease comprehension. The beauty about this is also the fact that an intimate relationship between the proverbs and the audience is assured since through the senses present in the proverbs, mere words become alive and can show, movement, sight and expression of feelings at kinesthetic, visual and organic imagery respectively.en_US
