    Abstract
Road-user adaptation is a prerequisite for traffic to run smoothly. By adaptation, the road user aims to ensure a feeling of comfort according to his or her present state and capability. In this thesis, adaptive attitudes of car drivers, pedestrians, motor cyclists and cyclists in response to different factors is explored, using the individual perspective of the road user. This research focused on the road user’s attitude towards the usability of the available road infrastructure along Salaama road. The research aimed at identifying the locations with road infrastructure concerns, what attitudes influence pedestrian-vehicle crash involvement and causes of negative attitudes of road users towards the road infrastructure. This study attempts to study the attitudes and their causes towards the usability of road infrastructure and present those preferences to urban designers and engineers for consideration in road design. The study results implied that the current road-user role infrastructure usability in terms of pedestrians, vehicle and infrastructure, affect adaptive attitude. Detailed information that allows road users to improve their predictions to take action to ensure a feeling of comfort, is however preferred The study concludes that there should be a provision of a wide range of road infrastructure and people need to be sensitized on those road infrastructures and their usage. Plus the authorities’ responsible need to double efforts to ensure that the rules set are respected and followed. This research work contains the views of the technical team especially the Physical Planner, Engineer, Traffic officers and LC 1 Chairman, the residents, the developers and operating along Salaama road and the different views of the scholars about the research topic that was got from literature view. The views from the residents, the different scholars and the case studies were used to come up with possible and implementable solutions to handle road infrastructure concerns along Salaama road in Makindye Division. Furthermore, this research work has five chapters with different themes and in detail aiming to give the readers a much broad picture about the research topic and the findings.
