dc.description.abstractA light emitting diode is a semi conductor light source that emitts light when current flows through it. LEDs are becoming more and more used in Uganda because they offer several advantages over traditional light bulbs. Here's is what LEDs have to offer and what makes them so beneficial. Improved Environmental Performance.It is becoming increasingly important for companies to become eco-friendly. Customers increasingly want environmentally friendly options and using ban environmentally friendly light source can help companies reduce their energy use, as well as attract a socially conscious consumer base. No heat or UV Emissions. Many traditional lighting sources like incandescent bulbs turrn more than 90 percent of the energy they use to heat, allocating only 10 percent of energy to actual light production. LEDs emit almost no heat, and most of the light they emit is within the visible spectrum. This feature is one reason that medical experts are looking at LEDs as a possible solution for seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which affects many people during the darker months of the year. It's also makes LEDs ideal for illuminating works of art that will degrade or break down over time with exposure to UV rays. Energy efficiency. Because of their high lumen output per watt, LEDs are capable of turning about 70 percent of their energy into light. This makes them much more efficient than other bulbs, which waste alot of energy by turning it into heat. For LEDs to work more efficiently, they need a constant current which is provided by a LED Driver circuit. In electronics, an LED Circuit or LED driver is an electrical circuit used to power a light-emitting diode. LED drivers also protect LEDs from voltage or current flactuations. A change in voltage could cause a change in the current being applied to the LEDs. In summary, LED drivers convert high voltage, alternating current to low voltage, direct current. They also keep the voltage and current flowing through an LED Circuit at it's rated level. For the fire mentioned reasons, every LED light source requires a driver, in short, without the right LED Driver, the LED light source would become too hot and unstable causing malfunctions and poor performance. In order to ensure the LEDs function perfectly, the self contained LED Driver needs to provide a constant power supply for the LED.en_US
