A literature review report submitted to the Department of Science, Technology & Vocational Education (DSTVE) in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of a Bachelors of Science with Education ( Biological) of Makerere University.en_US
Before the invention of internet and computers, one never thought learning would ever occur when a student and teacher are far apart. This has been disproved in the 21st century as now much of the learning has been conducted online even in third world countries like Uganda, in Makerere university as stated by Mayende et al(2014), Ngambi(2006) and Olum et al(2022). Science subjects like Biology that were always conducted physically are now also having their learning conducted online. In this literature review article, we seek to find how this learning via online means has impacted the gaining of scientific skills among biology teacher trainees at Makerere university. We take a closer look at; the 21st century view of online studies, the relationship between online/blended learning and scientific skill gaining, feasibility of carrying out biology lessons for university students remotely, scientific skills gained via online/blended learning and e- learning at Makerere University where we see a difference in perception of this mode of learning from that in other countries especially the well-developed West.en_US
