| dc.description.abstract | The study aimed at finding out the determinants of household expenditure on food in Western Uganda using the UNHS data 2016. The study aimed at specifically determining the influence of gender, occupation, education level and age of household head, annual household income and household size on household expenditure of food in Western Uganda using ANOVA test and Multivariate Linear Regression (MLR) model.
The MLR results revealed that gender of the household head, age of the household head, household size and education level of the household head have statistically significant and positive influence on household expenditure on food. MLR results also indicated statistically significant and negative influence of annual household income and occupation of the household head on household expenditure on food.
The study recommended that the government of the Republic of Uganda should educate the Ugandans regarding the importance and use of scientific family planning methods, extensively encourage Ugandans to access vocational training as this would reduce on the number of unemployed households, provide incentives to agriculturalists since most of them are rural based household heads and reduce taxes on food items as a cost reduction measure on the side of the households. | en_US |
