| dc.description.abstract | The library is one of the most resourceful places in terms of knowledge and information. However, access to Library resources and services still remain a challenge.
A field study of approximately fifty (50) Students and five (5) Librarians carried out at the College of Computing and Information sciences (CoCIS) in Makerere University indicated that Library resources and services are not utilized to their full potential by both the Students and the Lecturers.
A Mobile Web-based Library Information System was developed to provide a platform for both Students and Lecturers to access the Library resources and services anytime. It is a dynamic mobile web application which runs on different devices, for example cellphones, desktop computers and laptops.
Data was collected using questionnaires and interview guides in order to get different perspectives of the users on what they want the system to do for them. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Micro soft excel and content analysis.
Context diagrams, data flow diagrams (DFDs) and Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) were used to design the system for easy understanding on how it works. The system was developed using HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language), CSS (Cascading Style Sheet), JavaScript, PHP (Hypertext Pre-processor), bootstrap, and Android.
Library Users are able to borrow Library resources, search for Library resources, view the list of Library resources, download Library resources, read Library resources, log in, and create an account. The administrator (Librarian) is able to add a Library resource, manage user accounts, establish a penalty for failure to return the Library resource, view both the returned and borrowed Library resources. | en_US |
