Kampala city strives to become an attractive and sustainable city by 2040. Continued population growth is a major reason for the need to density within the existing urban structures. But more inhabitants will also increase pressure on usage and demand for green space in the city. Green space is of importance for human well-being and health, especially in urban environments. However, the importance of green space is being marginalized in current debate and urban planning, due to the intensive focus on densification. The relevance of green space as an environmental quality has neither been recognized sufficiently in discussions on environmental justice. Previous policy and research have not integrated some dimensions when assessing green space distribution. Hence this case study aimed to investigate the factors that influenced the spatial distribution of green areas in central division of Kampala city. Specific Objectives of this study include the following; a) To find out space usage and activities of green spaces. b) To examine the factors influencing the availability of green spaces in central division of Kampala c) To examine the major causes and reasons leading to inaccessibility of green spaces d) To recommend practical solutions that can be used for better and accessibility of green spaces in central division of Kampala city. Data collection techniques and instrument include, interview, questionnaire, photography among many others to mention but a few. Factors Influencing the Availability of Green Open Space in Kampala Central Division include the following to mention but a few; Population growth, Outward expansion of the Commercial area (CBD), Changes in land use function, Corruption among the division officers, the influence of community leaders (the veterans) Recommendations include, good design, crime prevention through environmental design(cpted), design for inclusivity, green gentrification. In conclusion, green spaces like Centenary park, Constitutional Square, Sheraton Garden, Kitante p/s, Kampala Golf Course, Agha khan p/s, Buganda Road p/s, Railway Park, Kololo Airstrip from the planning parameters are not effectively planned for though it has most facilities and they are turning into something else. This is due to the existence of some challenges 11 identified in this study. However, the study recommends that due to development of different land uses in green spaces,en_US
