A research report submitted to the College of Engineering Design and Art in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the award of the degree Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering of Makerere University.en_US
This report consists of the background of our study, from which the problem statement derives, study objectives (Both main and specific) which are the core of our research study and the main milestones to overcome at large. The justification provides the relevance of the study and scope which provides the extent of our study along with the duration anticipated. In the transport sector, buses are considered the most delicate vehicles being used due to their ability to carry a big number and the safety of passengers. Bus body building is an emerging enterprise in its preliminary stages in Uganda with Kenya being the leading fabricator in the region. Currently the venture is being undertaken by Kiira Motors Co., and a few privately owned entities like Metu Buses, Alisana Engineering Workshop. The design of internal bus skeleton structure is the basis of various models within the Bus transport sector (Anand Raj S1, Sayeed Ahamed K I2, Rajath H G3, 2020) The different types of buses on the market are classified as follows; Distance traveled by the bus: This includes mini bus (capacity up to 25 passengers), Town bus (about 20km), suburban bus (40 to 50km), Long distance coaches (about 200km), Touring coaches (about 200km (Thiagarajan, 2015) Capacity of the vehicle and shape and style of the vehicle: mini bus(8 to 15),Town bus(up to 40),suburban(41 to 60),Long distance coaches(61 to 80),Touring coaches(60 to 70) Based on shape and style of the vehicle: i.e. classic type, single decker, double deckeren_US
