A project report submitted to the Department of Chemistry in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science (Chemistry Major) of Makerere Universityen_US
The objective of this study was to determine the level of lead in leaves and tomatoes fruits grown in the wetlands of Kampala and flat areas as the control sites (Lubigi of Bulenga and that of Nansana and Ssumbwe respectively) two sampling sites were selected with one control site. Concentration of these lead was determined using Atomic absorption spectrophotometer, It was found that most of the concentrations were higher than obtained in the control site. The concentrations of tomatoes samples for lead were found to be in the range of -4 -mgPd/kg for the wetlands and 10-4) mgPd/kg. Sample concentrations for wetlands in Kampala were above FAO/WHO Allimentarious standard. Pearson correlation shows positive correlation between soil and vegetable. Therefore, consumption of tomatoes from these study areas may constitute health hazard to human as at the time of this research work. en_US
