Design and construction of a wireless physiological monitor based on GSM platform
Abstract
This report contains all the relevant details concerning the design and construction of a GSM based wireless physiological monitoring device with remote readings access and logging. Heart rate of the subject in beats per minute (bpm) will be measured from the finger by placing the thumb in between the IR transmitter and receiver and the rate is then averaged and displayed on a text-based LCD. The model also consists of a temperature measuring probe based on a TMP36 analogue T0-92 temperature sensor that will be integrated with the same microcontroller analog input channel to measure the temperature of the human body. Both the heart rate and temperature are alphanumerically displayed on 16x2 JHD1620 HD44870 character-based LCD. The device shall also incorporate a SIM900 GSM modem from SIMcom Technologies that will enable real time communication of critical physiological readings by SMS to a clinician’s cellphone to enable remote diagnosis and monitoring of patients.
