An exploration of the place and value of Litrary devices in the use of proverbs: a case study of selected Acholi proverbs
Abstract
This study is envisioned to investigate and find out the place and value of literary devices as used in proverbs. The study is focusing on proverbs of the Acholi people. Proverbs form an essential source of oral narrative that can be written down or put in media. Embedding oral forms of literature such as proverbs in the formal curriculum in this century is very crucial in adding authentic city to our education in Uganda. This will make what people learn at school and at home in form of literary works more related and closer to their own lives’ experiences unlike the foreign western literature. Therefore, the research aims at particularly at opening up our mind on how and why oral narratives such as proverbs are important and has to be considered an essential element of teaching and learn.
