Songs are important part of oral literature because they serve as an educational and entertainment role. To be more specific, funeral songs play an important part in preserving culture of the Alur people. This study is about the significance of dirges in the Alur culture .I used a number of methods which included interviewing, recording, observation to collect the data about funeral dirges of the Alur people. From this study, I actually came to the realization that the traditional funeral dirges are pacing out and so for this information, I am advocating for documentation of the ancient dirges because it was really complicated for me to find them in that way even our great grandchildren will be able to come across them and still pass it to their grandchildren just the way they were passed toen_US
