dc.description.abstractThe current study is concerned with the theme of work in Lugisu folksongs and the genre in general. As investigated, earlier studies on folksongs outline functions, performance and structure of the song. Actually they regard it as part of general folklore and since in most societies it is taken as ''minor from'', few studies have been conducted on literariness of a folksongs as part of the literary genre. The study therefore, brings out the fact that works as a theme is actually the commonest in the folksongs genre with the case study of folksongs in cater for your needs in regard to the topic of this study Lugisu. Scholars like Ruth Finegan, Chenaina are the biggest advocated of oral literature and therefore, have contributed much to the views on this study. The study is based in the Eastern region of Uganda among the Bagisu society. During the data collection, sampling, interviewing and observation methods were used as discussed in chapter two. The folksongs were analyzed in the original language through translations are clearly made.en_US
