A study of the economic effects of Covid-19 pandemic on households’ income

Abstract

The study was carried out on “economic effects of covid19 pandemic on the households‟ income in Kalagala sub-county, Luweero district Uganda,” The main purpose was to assess the economic impact of covid19 pandemic on households‟ income, their cope up strategies to adjust with their low and declining income. The study was important because of its benefits to policymakers to correct the effects of the pandemic through coordination of the monetary and fiscal policies. The results revealed that among the socio-demographic factors, age, marital status and level of education had a significant association with income since (p<0.05). There was no significant evident relationship between gender and income since (p=0.891). Among the socio-economic factors, employment status, wealth status, profession of work had a significant association with income status since (p<0.05). There was no significant evident relationship between location and income during the pandemic since (p=0.891). Under multivariate analysis, education level, employment status and profession of work were significant while location was not a significant variable in the analysis. The study recommended greater understanding of government support by developing a userfriendly medium with up-to-date information about business support programs and maintain support to poor and low-middle income groups, who are now poorer and more vulnerable, through a suite of labor market (such as cash for work, skills training, job creation) and social assistance programs were recommended by the researcher.
