Design of an automatic real-time beehive temperature and humidity monitoring and control system
Abstract
A beehive is a box or other shelter for a colony of bees, in which they make and store honey. Bees
are very important for terrestrial ecosystems and, above all, for the subsistence of many crops, due
to their ability to pollinate flowers. Due to the habits of bees, beekeeping is typically carried out
away from homesteads; nonetheless, if it is not frequently monitored, farmers may suffer a huge
loss.
Beekeeping is becoming more popular in Uganda due to its many advantages in terms of its
products, mainly honey and wax, and because it is very profitable, which boosts the economy of
the nation more than other agricultural activities like poultry keeping, among others. Beekeeping
is becoming more popular in Uganda as a result of its many advantages in terms of its Products
like honey and wax are particularly profitable, which increases the country’s economy as
compared to other agricultural activities like raising poultry, among others, economy.
In the proposed system, the DHT22 sensors are used to monitor the temperature both in and outside
of the beehive and also control temperature using the fan and a PTC air heater. This system will
reduce the increasing losses in Agriculture mainly from the beekeeping sector caused due to high
or low temperatures in the hive.
